North Tyneside Green Party announce candidate for longbenton and benton by-election

candidate is endorsed by progressive campaigning group, north tyneside together

Following the election of Karen Clark to North Tyneside Mayor last month, her council seat in Longbenton and Benton is now vacant and there will be a by-election on July 2nd to fill the vacancy.

North Tyneside Green Party member Jim Howard has been officially selected as the Green Party candidate and has been endorsed by Majority members and the North Tyneside Community Independents.

For the upcoming Longbenton and Benton by-election, The Green Party North Tyneside, Majority, and the North Tyneside Community Independents will be campaigning under the banner of North Tyneside Together, bringing together progressive voices to challenge Labour, offer a clear alternative to Reform and to get Jim elected on July 2nd.

Jim commented:

“I was an engineer for over 35 years working in sustainability, helping major organisations cut their environmental impact, and leading major energy efficiency and renewable projects that saved energy, supported jobs, and boosted local economies. Now retired, I’ve turned my focus to the issues I care about most. I want to use my experience to help tackle the cost of living, lower energy bills by insulating homes to keep people warm, and protect our parks and green spaces for our kids and grandkids.

This is an exciting opportunity for the Green Party to campaign with other like-minded groups. I firmly believe that there is more that unites us than divides us and we look forward to trying this new way of doing politics.”
