North Tyneside Climate Emergency Workshop

North Tyneside Borough Green Party are to host a Climate Emergency Workshop on Wednesday 11 November in response to the publication of the North Tyneside Action Plan.

NT Climate Emergency

In 2019, following action by North Tyneside Borough Green Party, the Council to declared a Climate Emergency.

Although the 2050 target set by the declaration falls short of what we believe is required, we were pleased that the Council recognised the need for urgent action.

NT Climate Action Plan

North Tyneside Councillors commissioned the Carbon Trust to draw up an extensive and detailed Action Plan to meet its declaration to reduce the borough’s net carbon footprint to zero by 2050.

This plan, which has now been published, was discussed at the October Cabinet Meeting.

The measures adopted at the Cabinet meeting fall far short of the recommendations set out in the Action Plan and responsibility for the implementing detail of the Action Plan has been delegated to Council Officers, subject to ‘business case’.

NT Climate Emergency Workshop

We are concerned that the Action Plan, commissioned by taxpayer money, will not be implemented and we will lose an opportunity to make the necessary changes across the Borough.

We are hosting this Workshop to provide an opportunity for everyone across the Borought to explore the plans which have been proposed, decide what we want our Council and other public bodies to do, and how we can contribute and campaign.
