The removal of the EATF measures, such as the Sunrise Cycleway and the Pedestrianised Zones in Whitley Bay and North Shields, has raised questions regarding the decision making process at North Tyneside Council.
We have now entered National Lockdown 2.0, with Covid-19 cases continuing to rise across our Borough. We are also facing a Climate Emergency, which the Council has recognised and committed to action.
In light of these facts, several groups, including North Tyneside Borough Green Party, requested a review of the decision and a delay on the removal of the measures. However, North Tyneside Council has pushed ahead – and measures which create safe space for people have been removed.
We have therefore written to North Tyneside Council to ask for an explanation and clarification of the decision making process, confirming who was involved and what evidence supported the decision.
